Is Tioga Road The Best Way To See Yosemite? It is one of the most well-known restaurants along this stretch of Highway 395. In addition to being the highest point on this road, you can reach 10,000 feet here. From Yosemite’s east side, you can enter the park by driving up Tioga Pass. The springs are most likely boiling in a small cabin that has been filled with water. You can easily walk through the meadow on the way to the springs by hiking to Soda Springs. Olmsted Point, Tenaya Lake, Soda Springs, and Lembert Dome are all located in the Tuolumne Mountains in Yosemite National Park. The following are some of my favorite places to stop along the way from Yosemite Valley to Highway 395. The road is located six miles east of Tuolumne Meadows on CA Highway 120 in Yosemite County. At 9,941 feet above sea level, Tioga Pass is the highest point in the United States. There is no doubt that crossing Tioga Pass is one of the most beautiful routes in the Sierra Nevada. It is the highest point between Yosemite Valley and the eastern part of California. It’s a great way to get an up close look at the South Tufa area of Mono Lake, where you can see tower-like rock formations. Mono Lake Yosemite, located in North America, is one of the oldest lakes in the world, dating back at least 760 000 years. ![]() This is an excellent place to stop and listen to the creek sounds while standing under the shade of a massive pine tree. Olmstead Point is more of a scenic area, with spectacular views of Yosemite Valley and Half Dome. The trail, which is lined with lodgepole pine trees, is easily accessible and can be completed in as little as 2 hours. Tenaya Lake is regarded as one of the most accessible lakes along the Tioga Road Pass. The Tioga pass entrance to Yosemite Valley does not require reservations. In Dog Lake, there are no dogs nor does it resemble one. ![]() They both have the same elevation and are up to 2.8 miles long at their widest. The Lembert Dome and Dog Lake trails give you a breathtaking view of the Tuolumne Mountains. ![]() It is a cold-weather hazard to drive the road through the Tioga Pass, as it is prone to avalanches and other accidents. It is the highest drivable pass in California, reaching a peak of 9943 feet above sea level. The Tioga road pass, which is known as the “Mother Road” in Yosemite National Park, is the park’s eastern entrance. Some of the sights along Tioga Road include the Tuolumne Meadows, Olmsted Point, Tenaya Lake, and the Tioga Pass. Yosemite has been grappling with congestion-even gridlock-for decades. They were also required for three weekends in February 2023 to help manage crowding and associated impacts during the Horsetail Fall event. Reservations were required in the summers of 20 due to the pandemic and in summer 2022 when numerous key visitor attractions were closed for critical infrastructure repairs. Reservations will not be required to visit Yosemite National Park during the rest of 2023.
